The Nutsert® threaded insert is a steel, low profile, expanding insert available in standard and metric thread sizes. An expanding insert is a single piece, which breaks into two pieces during installation. The lower threaded section of the insert draws up inside the upper sleeve section, causing the sleeve to expand 360o thus swaging the insert into the hole. Because the insert does not form a bubble on the backside of the application, an expanding insert can be used in blind hole applications. However, an expanding insert has less resistance to push out forces than a bubbling insert, which collapses into a bubble formation on the backside of the application. The low profile flange of the Nutsert® insert results in near flush installation and clamp up making it ideal for flush fitting, thin sheet and low load bearing applications. Additionally, the Nutsert® insert has small splines under the flange, which play a small role in the inserts resistance to turning in the application hole.
- Splined body improves torque-to-turn by up to 50% compared to plain body inserts
- Improved electrical continuity in sheet metal fixings
- Expanding style insert body can be used in any material thickness from 0.030 Inch through solid materials
- Radial expansion of Nutsert® provides 360° contact with parent material
- Allows installation anywhere and at any time in the assembly process
- Reduced rear-sheet protrusion
- Low profile head results in near flush installation and clamp up
