Shell reamers may be straight or spiral fluted components that are designed to be used as chucking or machine reamers for reaming bearings, to enlarge previously formed holes to a precise diameter with a smoother finish. A shell reamer is used with a shell reamer arbor that's tapered to fit the hole in the reamer and supplied without a shank.
